Open Source alternative for Camtasia under Linux
I have been thinking of creating my own screencasts for a while. Today I stumbled upon a screenshot of Camtasia studio which looked very promising. Unfortunately they do not offer a linux version. So I googled around for an open source alternative. The one thing I found is the Xvidcap project. Drawback with the software is that has not been updated since October last year.
So I installed Xvidcap
yum -y install xvidcap.x86_64
You can record actions in a little window. Not as fancy as Camtasia but will do for the beginning.

What about…
Xvidcap (or recordmydesktop) + KdenLive (the best video editor I’ve ever used in my life) + CompizFusion (zooming effects + pointing and drawing tools).
Xvidcap lets you capture your screen
Kdenlive. Lets you capture your screen and edit the video in wider formats than Camtasia. but I’d not recommend it for screen capturing. Probabilly I’m wrong but I had a bad exerience . However, It’s the easiest video editor I’ve used in my life and very owerfull.
With CompizFusion you have a lot of zooming, pointing and screen drawing resorces.
And all of them are just free… D)

If you have got Java installed as a plugin in your browser and you are using a Mac or a PC Screenr might be an alternative for you.
It did not work for me on Linux tough.
